The purpose of the Great Art Program is to stimulate interest,
imagination, and foster lasting appreciation of art by providing
reproductions of fine works of art to be exhibited in our elementary
schools on a monthly rotation in grades K-5.
Adult and high school volunteers present and discuss paintings
of world-renowned artists to kindergarten through fifth grade
students once a month in their classrooms through the "picture lady/gentleman" visits.
Dedicated volunteers introduce fine works of art accompanied by excellent research materials for accurate presentations. Students are introduced to works by Michaelangelo, El Greco, Georgia O'Keefe, Edgar Degas, Paul Klee, Jackson Pollack, Edward Hopper, Pieter Breugel, Marc Chagall, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne and many others. An annual trip to the Snite Museum of Art on the campus of Notre Dame is a popular field trip for the fifth grade students.
